Every bottle in our range carries a strength label — Classic, Strong, Extra Strong or Ultra Strong — and it is the single most common thing UK buyers ask about before ordering. This guide explains what those four tiers mean, how they map to the bottles we stock, and how to pick a tier without buying blind.
Strength here is a labelling convention used across the room odouriser trade, not a measured scale with an agreed unit behind it. Two brands can both say "extra strong" and arrive there differently. What the tier does tell you reliably is where a bottle sits within a range, and that is genuinely useful when you are choosing between forty-odd bottles that otherwise look similar.
How the four strength tiers work
Think of the tiers as a ladder rather than a set of exact measurements. Manufacturers position each product relative to the others in their own line-up, and retailers — us included — group them so you can shop by tier instead of reading every label.
We use four:
- Classic — the baseline formula a brand has usually been selling longest.
- Strong — a step up from classic within the same family.
- Extra Strong — the tier most of the "Xtra", "XXX" and "Super Strength" branded bottles fall into.
- Ultra Strong — the top tier, and the smallest one. We currently list it for a single product line.
Each tier has its own collection page, so you can browse a whole tier at once: Classic, Strong, Extra Strong and Ultra Strong.
Why the label on the bottle and the tier on the site can differ
Brand names are marketing. "Hardcore" sounds like a top-tier name but sits in Extra Strong; "Hi-Tech" sounds neutral and sits in Classic. We tier by where the manufacturer places the formula in its own range, not by how dramatic the name is. If you are comparing two bottles, the collection they sit in is a better guide than the wording on the front.
Classic strength: the baseline tier
Classic is the largest tier we stock and the one most first-time buyers start with. It covers the long-established names — the bottles that have been on UK shelves for years and are still the steadiest sellers.
In 10ml at £3.99 you will find Liquid Gold, Pure Gold, Hi-Tech, Purple Haze, Bang!! Aroma and The Dogs Bollocks. In the larger 15ml bottle at £5.49 the Classic tier gives you XL Gold, Eagle Liquid Aroma and Trible Juice Original.
If you have never bought from this category before and want to see what the names are actually like, the Classic tier is where to look first. The Classic Trio — 3 x 10ml at £9.99 puts three different Classic bottles in one order for less than three singles cost separately, which is a cheaper way to compare than buying three full-price bottles.
Strong: the step-up tier
Strong is a narrow tier with only a handful of bottles in it, sitting between Classic and Extra Strong in each manufacturer's own ordering. The most notable entry is Who's Ya Daddy! Bears Own 25ml at £8.49 — the largest bottle we stock at 25ml, and the only Strong-tier product in that size.
Because the tier is small, it is worth browsing the Strong collection directly rather than trying to identify these bottles by name.
Extra Strong: the biggest tier above Classic
Extra Strong is where most of the range's more assertive branding lives, and it spans all three bottle sizes.
At 10ml and £3.99: Original Gold Extra Strong, Hardcore, New TNT Super Strength, Squirt Xtra Strong and Throb Hard XXXtra Strong.
At 15ml: Kink Extra Strong and Screw You Hard at £5.49, and X Red Extra Strong at £6.99.
At 25ml: Original Amsterdam Gold Extra Strong and English Xtra Strong, both £8.49.
That spread matters for value. The same tier runs from £3.99 for a 10ml up to £8.49 for a 25ml, and the bigger bottles work out cheaper per millilitre: about 40p per ml at 10ml, 37p at 15ml for the £5.49 bottles, and 34p at 25ml. If you already know which tier you want, size is the lever that changes your cost.
Ultra Strong: the top of the ladder
Ultra Strong is currently our smallest tier. X Green Ultra Strong 15ml at £6.99 is the single bottle in it, with a 3 x 15ml pack at £17.99 for anyone who already knows it is the one they want.
It is the sibling of X Red Extra Strong — same X range, same silver 15ml bottle, same price, distinguished by the colour of the cross on the label. Green sits one tier above red.
Which tier should you choose?
There is no universally "best" tier, and the right answer depends mostly on whether you already know the category.
If you are buying for the first time, start in Classic. The names are the most established, the bottles are the cheapest at £3.99, and you lose very little if a particular label is not for you. A trio is the efficient way in.
If you already know the Classic names, Extra Strong is the natural next stop and by far the widest choice — twenty-one listings across three sizes, including multipacks.
If you are buying a specific bottle you already know, skip the tiers entirely and go straight to the multipacks. Buying three of the same bottle saves roughly 15–17% against three singles, and orders over £19.98 qualify for free delivery.
If budget is the deciding factor, note that tier and price are almost independent here. Every 10ml single is £3.99 whether it is Classic or Extra Strong, so browsing Cheap Poppers does not restrict you to the lower tiers.
Strength versus size: two separate decisions
The most useful thing to take away is that strength tier and bottle size are independent choices. Tier tells you where a bottle sits in its manufacturer's line-up. Size tells you how much liquid you get and how much you pay per millilitre.
You can have a Classic bottle in 25ml or an Extra Strong in 10ml, and neither is a compromise on the other axis. Decide the tier first, then pick the size that suits how often you buy — 10ml for trying something new, 15ml for the middle ground, 25ml for the lowest cost per millilitre.
All our room odourisers are isopropyl nitrite formulations, so the tier is the main point of difference between them rather than the chemistry. You can see the full catalogue on the All Poppers page.
